Dr. Chester Wong

SFAS and its predecessor, SFJA (San Francisco Junior Academy), have produced alumni who have contributed for nearly a century. Our graduates include dozens of doctors, teachers, ministers, a General Conference President, a Grammy award winner, and the father and father-in-law of the current presidents of PUC and La Sierra University. Each has a fascinating story and we can learn much from them.

Dr. Chester Wong is a local legend. He has been a cornerstone of San Francisco Central for over three-quarters of a century.

Dear Subscriber,

This is the first issue of a new email publication that SFAS is offering you this year. While "Friday Focus" is targeted specifically to the families of SFAS students, "SFAS Community News" is written to the larger San Francisco Adventist School community, including Area One pastors, school board members, SFJA / SFAS alumni, and other interested parties who want all of the children in Area One to be able to obtain a quality Christian education at SFAS.

We hope that all of you will continue to subscribe to both publications. However, should you choose to opt out of one or the other, please scroll down to the very bottom of this to "Update Profile / Email Address" and make your selection there. Please do NOT use the "Safe Unsubscribe" link unless you wish to unsubscribe from ALL email from San Francisco Adventist School AND San Francisco Central Adventist Church.

New School Year Begins Soon

registrationSFAS is on the move. We have great teachers, great students, and are growing a campus which will make all proud. We are in a growth mode and look forward to a great year for all.

We are looking forward to the doors opening on our class of 2008 in just a few days. We are looking forward to opening with new lights and our same loyal core of quality teachers.

Teachers' Summer Activities

The teachers have not been relaxing over the summer. Rob Robinson has been working on a national Kindergarten curriculum project in Minneapolis and Washington that will be destined to upgrade the programs in many of our schools in North America.

Linda Ghilardi and Thelma Robinson have been getting ready this summer for introducing Pathways--our new integrated language arts curriculum--in their classrooms.

John Carrillo has been busy attending summer school at PUC, as well as welcoming a new baby daughter into his family.

More about Pathways...

Physical Plant Rehab

classroomThings have been busy around the school this summer. We've had some recurring vandalism taking place that we're trying to deal with. We have bumble bees that have built a hive in one of our walls. We've also been working on the lights in the classrooms--making sure the lights work effectively and efficiently.

Our physical plant is in rehab mode. Our lights have been overhauled in all the classrooms (no more dark spots) and we will be replacing those in the worship room shortly. We are upgrading from front to back and hope to have our new entrance sign delivered before Day One--August 23, 2007.

New Extracurricular Opportunity

We have an exciting new offering this year with an optional Mandarin after-school class brought to us by Wu Yi-ting, a native Mandarin speaker from Taiwan who recently completed her M.A. at USF in TESL.

Our Mandarin class will be taught daily Monday through Thursday for grades K-5. Space is limited, so do not hesitate if your child has an interest in Asian languages or culture. This will not be an easy class. Yi-ting just finished her summer camp at 66 Geneva and impressed all by sending the children home with homework. Even more impressive is that they enjoyed it.

September School Board Meeting

Our first School Board Meeting for this coming year will be on Mnday evening, August 27, at 7:00 PM. Our finance committee will also meet that night.

Area One constituents are welcome to attend any school board meetings, but only school board members may vote.

School Board...

I look forward to seeing all of you on August 27.

Sincerely,
Rob Robinson
