For more than 100 years, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has provided emergency relief through Adventist Community Service Disaster Response (ACS).

ACS Disaster Response operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the American Red Cross and many state emergency management agencies. It is also a founding member of the inter-agency compact called National Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) and the affiliated state VOADs.

In cooperation with ACS Disaster Response partners for Hurricane Katrina, ACS trained personnel are designated managers of multi-agency warehouses used to supply state designated distribution centers. (ACS is the usual designated organization for warehouse management including the 9/11 attacks in New York City.)

In Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, ACS Disaster Response teams are setting up warehouses to provide immediate relief to people devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Evacuees relocated to Texas and other states also benefit from warehouse goods.

ACS Disaster Response helps disaster victims through emergency distribution of relief supplies, donation management and warehouse operations and crisis response centers. ACS volunteers distribute non-perishable food, clothing, bedding, fresh water, toiletries, and other necessary supplies to those in need.

Working in more than 200 cities across North America, ACS Disaster Response operates in partnership with the FEMA and is a member of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters.
