Our Classroom Activities
October 15-19, 2007

Dear Families,

We’re continuing our study about nighttime. The kids are having lots of fun exploring in the nighttime center. This week we will focus on the following concepts:

  • Most animals are diurnal--they need daylight to help them see.
  • The heat of the day is uncomfortable for some animals. They prefer the coolness of the evening to hunt, play, and work.
  • Animals that come out at night are called nocturnal animals.
  • Safety is one of the main reasons why animals are nocturnal. It is easier to hide in the dark, and harder for predators to find them. Raccoons have a better chance of finding food when nobody can see them.
  • Some animals have an easier time finding food at night then they would during the day. Foxes don’t have to compete with as many large animals for food as they would in the daytime.

Day and Night

When the sun is in the sky,

(arms overhead like a sun)

Jesus loves me.

(hug self)

When the stars are way up high,

(wiggle fingers over head)

Jesus loves me.

(hug self)

In the day and in the night,

(arms overhead like sun and then pretend to sleep)

Jesus loves me!

(hug self)
