Dear Families,
You are probably well aware that many in the public health field are expecting an increased number of influenza cases this next year, reaching pandemic proportions. Because of the expected outbreak, our school is in the process of meeting guidelines and criteria established by the California Department of Education, the State Department of Health, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.
Resources
Enclosed with this letter you will find several resources to help your family
be prepared should the flu be widespread this season. Please review the
following resources:
|
|
Ways to Protect Yourself [PDF]--Check out the emergency supplies to have on hand; review with your family the healthy habits that help stop the spread of disease. |
| Practical Information on Crisis Planning [PDF]--Review the steps our school is taking to help keep our school safe. |
|
| Keep Our School Healthy [PDF]--Check your child daily for any of the signs listed. Children exhibiting any of those signs or symptoms will be sent home. Children must stay at home for 24 hours after the symptoms have subsided. A child taking antibiotics must have been on the medication for over 24 hours before being allowed to return to school. In most cases it will be helpful to have your child’s doctor issue a "return to school" note. Thank you for being considerate of other families and staff by not exposing others to a sick child. |
Begin planning now
What supplies/resources do you need to have at home? Who will watch your
child when he/she is sick? Who will pick them up from school? In the event
that your child does have the flu, the health department is advising that
individuals should be prepared to stay home for up to ten (10) days.
In the event that there is a widespread outbreak of influenza on our campus, our library has been designated as a quarantine area. Children will be kept there until an adult can come and pick them up.
When children are sent home with flu-like symptoms, they are to take all of their textbooks, workbooks, and supplies home with them. When they are feeling better (but not yet well enough to return to school), they will be able to work on their assignments at home.
If our school should have to be closed due to a pandemic flu outbreak, all students are to take all their books and supplies home with them. Assignments will be made available primarily through our school’s website (www.sfasonline.org).
In the event our school is temporarily closed, up-to-date information will be found on our web site. Should our school be closed during a pandemic outbreak, please use the following cell phone numbers to contact us for more information:
Mr. Robinson (650) 291-2833
Mr. Stickney (415) 722-2647
Thank you for taking the time to read through this important information. Thank you, too, for all you are doing to help keep our school family healthy and well this winter!
Sincerely,
Robert J. Robinson
Principal
