Dear Parents & Friends of SFAS,

A new school year begins on August 21. Applications are still being accepted for the new year. At SFAS we believe that each child is unique in personality and blend of gifts, abilities, and limitations.

Back to School--Already

As I was walking through Target last week I was surprised to see the "Back to School" displays already out. In addition, there were kids already picking out back packs, markers, glue, and all sorts of school supplies.

"Summer's boring," I overheard one child tell another. "I can't wait to go back to school."

School will resume on Monday, August 22, for our kids here at San Francisco Adventist School.

Between now and then, there are lots of things being accomplished--and a lot yet to be finished.

Here are some things for you to remember as we get ready for another great school year to begin:

  • After-school care has a new home. Mrs. Martell and her after-school kids will be in Mr. Carrillo's old classroom. They'll be closer to bathrooms and have access to running water. This will keep everyone much safer!
  • Mr. Carrillo has a new classroom. The junior high has moved upstairs to the classroom next to the computer lab.
  • The Worship Center is being fitted with surround-sound stereo--great for our movie nights this fall!
  • Students entering 7th grade must have a physical that includes a scoliosis check. Physical forms will be mailed to you.
  • Students entering kindergarten (or school for the first time) must provide up-to-date immunization records. This must include a TB test.
  • Registration will be held on Sunday, August 13, from 3-6 pm. Come and finish filling out your forms for the new school year.

Enjoy the rest of the summer. I'll see you at registration on August 13!

Pathways

This school year teachers will begin implementing components of the Pathways literacy program.

Pathways is a comprehensive reading program with integrated language arts. This approach allows students to follow a variety of avenues to become readers, writers, and learners. Organized around broad themes and a scope and sequence of skills, Pathways uses award-winning trade books that children want to read to deliver the skills that they need.

Students will not only learn how to read, but also acquire the desire to read, write, learn, and think. All students deserve to be in a school situation where they have an opportunity to become passionate learners, readers, and writers. Pathways provides students with this opportunity.

During the school year, your child will need to provide his/her own books to read. Teachers will be sending home lists of books that will be needed during the year.

Consider San Francisco Adventist School
for Your Child

Are you thinking about sending your child to San Francisco Adventist School? Most parents want to give their children the best possible start in life. That begins with a solid Christian education.

Choosing to send your child to SFAS is probably one of the most important decisions you can make.

At SFAS your child will be provided with 1) academic challenge, which includes significant practice in learning how to think and not merely reflect others views, opinions, and lifestyles; 2) patient, consistent cultivation of ethical and moral character as well as good decision-making, 3) an appropriate living curriculum in the form of the adult models around them, and 4) the respect each child deserves as an "image-bearer" of God who has made each of them.

If you are interested in sending your child to San Francisco Adventist School, please contact our office at (415) 585-5550, ext. 23, or find us on the web at sfasonline.org.

We’ll be glad to provide you with more information as you consider a Christian education for your child.
